Why Live Removal Instead of a Spray?

A spray can knock down the bees you see and leave the honeycomb in the wall. That comb melts in the heat, stains the drywall, and draws other pests.

We open the nest, remove the bees alive, and take out all of the comb.

UF/IFAS EDIS IN741 (https://ask.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/IN741) explains how homeowners can bee-proof a building after a colony is gone.

The Most Common Types of Bees In Florida

Given that bees are the most valuable pollinators in Florida, it's to know what types of bees we see the most in our state. There are over 300 different species of bees around Miami and the rest of Florida but only 8 species of bees that produce honey. Contrary to what some people might believe, most bees have no interest in humans at all. They go about their busy day feeding on nectar and pollinating your plants and flowers. You're simply not their main focus. Here are the main types of bees we see around Miami:

  • Western honey bee

    Eastern Carpenter Bee

Where Do the Bees Go?

300+ colonies rescued and relocated

Honey bee colonies we remove are boxed and taken to our farm, where they are hived and kept.

Wasps are not relocated. A honey bee colony inside a building still needs the comb removed.

How Can You Tell Bees From Wasps?

Honey bees are fuzzy and build wax comb. Wasps are smoother, with a narrow waist, and build paper nests. If you are unsure, send a photo and do not spray.

Honey bees

  • Fuzzy body and a pollen basket on the hind leg
  • Wax comb, often hidden inside a wall, roof, or tree
  • Relocated alive when the colony can be moved safely

Wasps

  • Smoother body and a narrow waist
  • Paper nest under an eave, in the ground, or in a shrub
  • Removed, not relocated to the farm

Where Do We Work?

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does bee removal cost?

Every job is different, so we give a free quote after we see the colony. Height, access, the material we have to open, and how much comb is inside all change the work. Call and we will tell you what your job involves. We do not list prices.

Do you kill the bees?

No. Honey bees are removed alive and relocated to our farm. We also take out the honeycomb. Wasps are not relocated.

Can you come today?

7 AM – 7 PM, 7 days a week. Emergencies: call now if bees are near a door, pool, or play area.

Do you remove the honeycomb?

Yes. Comb left in a wall melts and ferments. We take it out and clean the cavity. We do not close or repair the opening.

What is the difference between a swarm and a hive?

A swarm is a cluster resting in the open, usually on a branch or eave, with no comb yet. A hive inside a wall already has comb, and the wall has to be opened to remove it.
